The Ottawa Adult Autism Initiative (OAAI) is a grassroots volunteer organization whose members include adults on the autism spectrum, family members and allies, and ASD professionals.

In Fall 2019, OAAI partnered with Autism Ontario to begin a consultation with the Ottawa adult autism community, funded by a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Our goal was to create a “community snapshot” documenting the current met and unmet needs of the local adult ASD community.
Work on the OAAI project was done over the last year and a half. First-person lived experiences of ASD adults, family members and allies, and ASD professionals were gathered through our 2020 online surveys and virtual community meetings. Over 400 people in the local community responded.
The information in our “community snapshot” provides a foundation to create a new way for ASD adults and their families to access the supports and services they need. The OAAI is committed to finding additional funding to make this vision a reality.
